All bitumen waterproofing membranes share the same anatomy — a reinforcement carrier saturated in polymer-modified bitumen — but they branch into distinct types by polymer, carrier, surface finish and application method. Here is the complete map.
By polymer: APP or SBS
- APP (plastomeric) — high softening point, strong UV resistance; the default for hot climates. Insutech’s APP line: InsuGrand, InsuFort, InsuSol, InsuExtra, InsuUltra.
- SBS (elastomeric) — rubber-like flexibility, superior in cold and on structures that move: InsuPrene, InsuBend, InsuMeric.
Full comparison: APP vs SBS — how to choose.
By carrier
- Non-woven polyester (PES) — high tensile strength and puncture resistance; the standard for roofs and foundations.
- Fiberglass (FG) — excellent dimensional stability at lower cost, for less demanding layers.
By surface finish
- Plain (film-faced) — for covered applications: under screeds, tiles or green roofs.
- Mineral slate finish — the membrane itself is the exposed final roof surface.
- Aluminum foil finish — reflective protection for exposed details.
By application method
- Torch-on — the standard, welded with a propane torch by trained applicators.
- Self-adhesive — no flame at all: the InsuStick family is applied peel-and-stick, ideal for timber decks and occupied buildings. See the step-by-step guide.
Special-purpose types
- Anti-root membranes — Anti Root APP and Anti Root SBS contain a root-inhibiting additive for green roofs and planters.
Every type above is manufactured by Insutech in Egypt — since 1987, CE-marked, exported to 105+ countries — with datasheets on each product page and in the Download Center. Not sure which type fits your project? Ask for a recommendation.
