Anti Root APP
APP modified bitumen membrane with a root-inhibiting compound integrated into the bitumen matrix — for planted roofs and landscaped build-ups.
Anti-root is specified as an additive rather than a separate membrane: the root-inhibiting compound is integrated into the bitumen formulation of any Insutech APP, SBS or InsuStick membrane. Technical properties follow the data sheet of the base membrane selected.

Engineered for the job it protects.
Built on the same proven APP (Atactic Polypropylene) modified bitumen technology as Insutech’s standard membrane range, Insutech Anti Root APP incorporates a specially developed chemical barrier that is homogeneously integrated into the bitumen matrix. This barrier actively inhibits root penetration, preventing even the most aggressive root systems from breaching the waterproofing layer — making it an ideal solution for green roof assemblies, landscaped podium decks, planted terraces, rooftop gardens, and biodiverse living roofs.
The membrane is reinforced with a non-woven polyester carrier and offers the high heat resistance, UV stability, and impermeability to water that are characteristic of APP technology. It is installed using torch-on application to concrete, metal, and other prepared substrates, and its upper surface can be finished with a range of options to accommodate the build-up of the green roof system above.
Ideal for green roofs, roof gardens, planted patios, and podium decks, Insutech Anti Root APP delivers a dual-function solution: reliable, long-lasting waterproofing paired with a certified root-resistant barrier that ensures the integrity of the membrane is maintained throughout the lifetime of the vegetation layer above.
- Integrated Anti Root formula — inhibits root penetration at the membrane level
- APP modified bitumen for superior heat resistance and UV stability
- Ideal for green roofs, roof gardens, planted terraces, and podium decks
- Polyester reinforcement for high tensile strength and elongation performance
- Absolute impermeability to water with high chemical resistance
- Torch-on application for secure, seamless adhesion to prepared substrates
- Compatible with all standard green roof build-up systems and drainage layers
The underside of the membrane is laminated with a thin, thermo-fusible polyethylene burn-off film to ensure efficient torch application and optimal adhesion. The membrane is available with a wide range of upper surface finishes, including multi-colored mineral slates, aluminum foil, sanded finishes, and polyethylene film.

Custom surface options and colors are available on request.
Surface Finish Flyer →Application, Step by Step.
Clean the substrate of dust, debris and standing water, then repair any cracks or voids so the membrane can bond to a sound, even surface.
Apply a bituminous primer evenly across the whole surface and allow it to dry completely before any membrane work begins on the area.
Unroll and align the membrane on the primed surface, allowing the specified side and end overlaps before any bonding takes place.
Heat the burn-off film with a propane torch while progressively unrolling, pressing the membrane firmly onto the prepared substrate.
Torch and seal every overlap with a rounded trowel, checking each joint to achieve continuous, fully watertight seams across the surface.
Finish upstands, drains and penetrations with reinforcing details, then protect the membrane before backfilling, screeding or tiling.
