Anti Root SBS
SBS modified bitumen membrane with a root-inhibiting compound integrated into the bitumen matrix, combining elastic performance with root resistance.
Anti-root is specified as an additive rather than a separate membrane: the root-inhibiting compound is integrated into the bitumen formulation of any Insutech APP, SBS or InsuStick membrane. Technical properties follow the data sheet of the base membrane selected.

Engineered for the job it protects.
Manufactured using SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) modified bitumen, Insutech Anti Root SBS features the same proven elastic and flexible performance that makes SBS membranes the preferred choice in colder climates and applications subject to thermal cycling. To this, Insutech has integrated its proprietary Anti Root formula directly into the bitumen matrix, creating a chemical barrier that actively prevents root systems from penetrating the membrane and compromising the waterproofing layer beneath.
The membrane is reinforced with a high-quality polyester carrier that provides outstanding elongation and tensile strength, allowing the membrane to accommodate structural movement without loss of waterproofing integrity. Its flexibility at sub-zero temperatures makes it especially well-suited for planted roof assemblies in regions with wide seasonal temperature ranges.
Ideal for green roofs, roof gardens, planted patios, and landscaped podium slabs, Anti Root SBS offers a comprehensive waterproofing solution that supports long-term vegetation growth while maintaining the structural and waterproofing performance expected of Insutech’s SBS membrane family. It is installed using torch-on or cold adhesive application and is compatible with standard green roof drainage and growing medium systems.
- Integrated Anti Root formula — inhibits root penetration at the membrane level
- SBS modified bitumen for superior cold flexibility and elastic recovery
- Ideal for green roofs, roof gardens, planted patios, and podium decks in variable climates
- Polyester reinforcement for excellent elongation and resistance to structural movement
- Outstanding performance in sub-zero temperatures and thermally cycling environments
- Absolute impermeability to water with high chemical resistance
- Compatible with torch-on and cold adhesive installation methods
- Compatible with all standard green roof build-up systems and drainage layers
The underside of the membrane is laminated with a thin, thermo-fusible polyethylene burn-off film to ensure efficient torch application and optimal adhesion. The membrane is available with a wide range of upper surface finishes, including multi-colored mineral slates, aluminum foil, sanded finishes, and polyethylene film.

Custom surface options and colors are available on request.
Surface Finish Flyer →Application, Step by Step.
Clean the substrate of dust, debris and standing water, then repair any cracks or voids so the membrane can bond to a sound, even surface.
Apply a bituminous primer evenly across the whole surface and allow it to dry completely before any membrane work begins on the area.
Unroll and align the membrane on the primed surface, allowing the specified side and end overlaps before any bonding takes place.
Heat the burn-off film with a propane torch while progressively unrolling, pressing the membrane firmly onto the prepared substrate.
Torch and seal every overlap with a rounded trowel, checking each joint to achieve continuous, fully watertight seams across the surface.
Finish upstands, drains and penetrations with reinforcing details, then protect the membrane before backfilling, screeding or tiling.
