Bitumen Membrane & Emulsion

Basements & Foundations

Below-grade waterproofing that seals the structure against ground water for its whole life — because there are no second chances underground.

Basements & Foundations
The Solution

One System, Built to Work Together.

Once a foundation is backfilled, its waterproofing is permanent — repairs mean excavation. Below-grade systems are therefore built on high-performance membranes, generous overlaps and mechanical protection against the backfill itself.

Insutech membranes wrap rafts, retaining walls and footings as a continuous tanked envelope, with protection boards taking the impact of backfilling and the loads of the ground beyond.

Where It's Used
  • Basements and underground floors
  • Raft foundations and ground slabs
  • Retaining and diaphragm walls
  • Lift pits and water tanks
  • Tunnels and below-grade infrastructure

System Build-Up

Layer by Layer.

  1. 01

    Structure Preparation

Concrete surfaces are cleaned and made good; corners get fillets and reinforcement.

  2. 02

    Bituminous Primer

Primer over all faces guarantees adhesion on the raft and walls.

  3. 03

    Waterproofing Membrane

Torch-applied membrane forms the continuous tanking envelope with generous laps.

  4. 04

    Protection Board

Insuboard shields the membrane from backfill impact and ground pressure.

  5. 05

    Backfill

Controlled backfilling in compacted lifts completes the below-grade works.

Key Benefits
01

Sealed for the Structure's Life

A continuous tanked envelope with no serviceable parts — engineered to never need excavation.

02

Survives the Backfill

Protection boards absorb impact and pressure so the membrane arrives at service intact.

03

Handles Structural Movement

SBS options keep elasticity underground where settlement and movement are expected.

04

Chemistry-Proof

Resistant to salts, alkalis and aggressive ground water found below grade.
