EPS Construction Solutions

Lightweight Concrete

EPS-bead concrete screeds — falls, level corrections and insulation poured in one lightweight, pumpable layer.

Lightweight Concrete
The Solution

One System, Built to Work Together.

Roof falls and thick level corrections in normal screed pile dead load onto the structure. Replacing the aggregate with EPS beads cuts the density to a fraction while keeping the mix pumpable and workable.

EPS lightweight concrete flows to falls, insulates as it fills, and gives roofs and floors their geometry without punishing the slab below.

Where It's Used
  • Roof screeds to falls
  • Thick level corrections
  • Insulating sub-screeds
  • Weight-restricted refurbishments
  • Backfill around services on decks
System Build-Up

Layer by Layer.

  1. 01

    Substrate Preparation

The deck is cleaned and levels are set out for the pour.

  2. 02

    Mix Batching

EPS beads batched into the cement mix at the specified density.

  3. 03

    Pumped Placement

The lightweight mix pumps to the roof and spreads to the screed rails.

  4. 04

    Levelling to Falls

The surface is ruled to the drainage falls shown on the drawings.

  5. 05

    Curing & Protection

The screed cures protected, ready for waterproofing or finishes above.

Key Benefits
01

A Fraction of the Dead Load

Densities far below standard screed spare the structure tonnes per roof.

02

Falls and Insulation Together

One pour delivers drainage geometry and a thermal layer at once.

03

Pumps to Any Level

Flowable mixes reach high roofs and deep corrections without cranage.

04

Takes the Next Trade

Cured surfaces accept membranes, screeds and finishes directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this system.

Where is the Lightweight Concrete system used?

It is typically used for roof screeds to falls, thick level corrections, insulating sub-screeds, weight-restricted refurbishments and backfill around services on decks.

Which Insutech products are used for lightweight concrete?

The recommended system is built with InsuBlock 14kg/m³, InsuBlock 17kg/m³, EPS 14kg/m³ and EPS 17kg/m³ — full details for each are on the recommended products cards on this page.

How is the system installed?

The system is installed in 5 stages: substrate Preparation, mix Batching, pumped Placement, levelling to Falls and curing & Protection. The system build-up section on this page illustrates the full sequence.

What are the main advantages of the lightweight concrete system?

The key advantages are A Fraction of the Dead Load, falls and Insulation Together and pumps to Any Level — each is explained in the Key Benefits section on this page.
